The Tramuntana mountains are the main mountain range in the Balearic Islands and here you can find the highest peaks in Majorca, such as Puig Mayor.  In order to really get to know the Tramuntana mountains, the best option is to visit them.

Some of the most incredible villages are located throughout the mountains, for example Valldemossa, Fornalutx, Sóller, Alcudia or Pollensa. In all of them you will see a very characteristic construction technique known as ‘Piedra en Seco’ ‘Dried Stone’ .

The ‘Piedra en Seco’ or ‘Dried Stone’ is also a hiking route from Andratx to Pollensa, also known as GR-22. In fact, this amazing construction technique is what gave the Tramuntana mountains the UNESCO World Heritage Site qualification for intangible culture.
